WHO NEED CRUTCHES?
Crutches are one of the support that can help you to balance your body weight when you have leg injuries.
Let’s see what type of leg injuries require you to use crutches.
Ankle Sprain
When ligaments in the ankle are torn, they cause an ankle sprain. The commonest type of ankle sprain occurs on the outside or lateral part of the ankle. An ankle sprain is a common injury that occurs during various activities.
Broken Foot/Broken Ankle
A broken foot or broken ankle can occur due to simply a fall or misstep or during a car crash. Its seriousness may differ; fractures within this category can range from fine cracks to big breaks in your bones that pierce the skin.
Broken Toe
Broken toes are usually caused due to injury or trauma. It takes place when a heavy item is dropped on the foot or toe is hit with something. Sometimes it may be just a sprained toe. However whether it is a broken toe or just a sprain, it may care at home.
Knee Dislocation
When the bones forming the knee are dislocated, it’s knee dislocation. Typically it takes place when the bones in the leg (fibula and tibia) move away from the bone in the thigh (femur). The knee bones are held together by sturdy ligaments. They are responsible for making the knee stable in a particular position. When these ligaments tear, knee dislocation occurs.
Knee Injury
Injuries to the knees can occur to one or many of the parts of the knee, viz. bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and fluid. When any of these is injured, severe pain and difficulty in walking occur. A knee injury can occur at any age and can interfere with several things, from simply getting up from a sitting position and walking to participating in sports.
Hip Replacement
The hip joint is formed of a ball-and-socket. The ball or femoral head is the top of the thighbone and the socket is formed of bone and cartilage. When this ball-and-socket joint undergoes wear and tear and is damaged, it needs to be replaced with synthetic artificial parts that can mimic the ball-and-socket. Sometimes only the socket is damaged or injured and causes pain and difficulty in walking and routine tasks. If the pain and other symptoms aren’t reduced, the doctor may recommend a hip replacement.
Muscle Strain
Muscle pull, muscle strain, or muscle tear commonly occurs in any type of people, but typically in sportspersons. It occurs in thigh muscles which are of three types – quadriceps in the front, hamstrings on the backside, and adductor in the inside. Hamstring and quadriceps muscles together bring about straightening and bending of leg and adductor muscles pull it together. The muscles that are at maximum risk of muscle strains are the quadriceps and hamstring since they cross hip as well as knee joints.
Fractures
Fractures or broken legs can take place in any of the leg bones. They are severely painful and may swell or bruise. This often restricts your walking and you need crutches. In the severe type of fracture, the leg may look oddly shaped, and sometimes even the bone may poke out of the skin.
