Research paper for an article “Multi-center, Comparative Clinical Assessment of Products for Hemostasis and Wound Healing in Endoscope Sinus Surgery”
This article is fully reported by Guanming Chen, Yonghua Cui, Tao Wu, and Juan Yan from Chinese Scientific Technology University entitled Multi-center, Comparative Clinical Assessment of Products for Hemostasis and Wound Healing in Endoscope Sinus Surgery, that Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS) is effective in tissue healing and showing symptomatic improvement of the three products indicated for this application; BloodSTOP® iX Hemostatic Matrix, SURGICEL® Absorbable Hemostat, and Vaseline® gauze strip.
Evaluation of post-ESS surgical for materials and methods was performed in patients with chronic sinusitis and type-II nasal polyps (term II). All patients were treated through Messerklinger’s (1997) surgical procedure. Cases were randomly divided into three groups according to the material used after surgery.
- Group A: BloodSTOP® IX Hemostatic Matrix (LifeScience PLUS, Inc.)
- Group B: Surgicel® Absorbent Hemostat (Johnson & Johnson)
- Group C: Vaseline® gauze strip
Results: The incidence of Grade I healing (84%) of Group A was significantly higher than the other two groups (65%).
Conclusions: BloodSTOP® iX Hemostatic Matrix demonstrates the ability to improve epidermal tissue formation and healing following ESS, improve symptoms and reduce the frequency and intensity of postoperative medical management. Based on these metrics, BloodSTOP® iX gave better results than other materials tested.
We are from Southern Crescent support the procedure and this study shows this method is safe to use.
